If you are 15 or older and looking for a great part-time job, then American Red Cross Lifeguard Training is a great place to start. Lifeguarding lets you work as part of a team to help people safely enjoy the water. You could even save a life!
Purpose: Lifeguard candidates are taught the skills and knowledge needed to recognize, prevent, and respond quickly and effectively to aquatic emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. Upon successful completion, participants will receive lifeguarding, CPR with AED, and first aid certificates from the American Red Cross.
Prerequisites: Minimum age of 15 years on/by the last class session. Participants must be able to pass a swimming pretest on the first day. One part of the pretest is a 150 yard continuous swim-then tread water for 2 minutes using legs only-then swim 50 more yards. The other part of the pretest is a timed test involving retrieving a ten pound brick from 7-10 feet deep and swimming 20 yards with the brick and exiting the pool.
Call or email the aquatic coordinator to check about lifeguarding opportunities and when there might be an upcoming class.
